Exbury Gardens and Mottisfont

When the kids are out for a three and a half week break, you have a lot of time on your hands. I thought I would enjoy 3 breaks like this rather than one long summer break, but I am not sure.  It was enough time to get the kids our of school routine but not enough time to establish a break routine and returning back to the school routine was rough.  It does give us the opportunity to spread some trips out.

For the first week of our break, we were in Southampton and amazingly had some sunshine.  When the sun is out, we take advantage as we have seen so little of it since we moved.  Assia called and invited us to go to Exbury Gardens. It was a little drive and we got there and the gardens were only partially in bloom. We enjoyed a nice picnic lunch - Assia brought thin mints, what a treat!

Of course the kids favorite part was the $2 train ride. We should have just taken the train ride and skipped the entry fee to the gardens. It was a great time though. The kids enjoyed the Vitamin D and I enjoyed the company.

Day 2 of break - MORE SUN!  We headed back out to Mottisfont (National Trust to which we have a membership).  We let the kids run loose, explore the paths, climb trees and make forts.
